The Karnataka government has introduced a health insurance scheme offering coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family for residents in rural areas, with a focus on strengthening access to primary healthcare. The scheme is intended to reduce the financial burden of hospitalisation on rural households.
It joins a broader set of state welfare measures currently in effect, including free electricity of up to 200 units a month for BPL households and unemployment allowances for graduates and diploma holders, according to state officials.
